What is the roles of curtains? A quick search on the Internet reveals that curtains have a variety of roles. Tenjin-factory considers the roles of linen curtains to be as follows. Without going into general roles such as blindfold effects, we consider the following three items to be of particular importance.

そもそもカーテンの役割とは、何でしょうか？ネットで検索するとカーテンには実に様々な役割があることがわかります。そうした中で、リネンカーテンの役割をテンジンファクトリーでは、以下のように考えています。目隠し効果など一般的な役割は、割愛して弊社が特に重要と考えているのは以下の3項目です。

1. To be able to feel the sun.

It is often said, "Wake up at sunrise and go to bed at sunset." Linen curtains are curtains that allow you to wake up in the morning feeling the sun's rays. Since you wake up each morning bathed in sunlight, you will naturally become sleepy at night. You can create a sleep rhythm in line with your body clock. On the other hand, ultraviolet rays are a concern, but the average UV shielding rate of relatively thin linen fabric is about 86% (according to our research). Therefore, we recommend double curtains, especially in bedrooms. We believe that by doing so, UV rays can be cut by 90% or more.

「日の出とともに目覚め、日の入りとともに寝る」とよく言いますが、太陽の光を感じて朝目覚めることのできるカーテンがリネンのカーテンです。毎朝太陽光を浴びて起きるので、夜になると自然に眠くなります。体内時計に沿った睡眠リズムが作れます。一方で、紫外線が気になるところですが、割と薄手のリネン生地でも紫外線遮蔽率は平均で86％くらいはあります（弊社調べ）。そこで弊社では、特に寝室には二重カーテンをお勧めしています。そうすることで90％以上は紫外線をカットできると考えています。

3. Easy to maintain cleanliness

Since linen curtains are made of plant-derived fibers, they are compatible with water and can be easily washed in a washing machine. They also dry quickly after washing, dewatering, and hanging. As these curtains are easy to keep clean, linen curtains are indispensable for a healthy lifestyle.

[ 1 ] Shuttle loom and selvedge

All Tenjin-factory curtain fabrics are woven at our factory in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. The cloth is woven on a shuttle loom, an old-fashioned machine, with the same specifications as antique linen, and is called selvedge linen. The term "selvedge" means "both sides of the fabric. But it is also a sign that the fabric was woven in the same old-fashioned way as antique linen.

[ 1 ] シャトル織機とセルビッチ

 テンジンファクトリーのカーテン生地は、全て山梨県富士吉田市にある自社工場で織っています。シャトル織機という昔ながらの機械で織られる布はアンティークのリネンと同じ仕様で、セルビッチリネンと言います。セルビッチとは、「織物の耳」という意味ですが、アンティークリネンと同じ、昔ながらの製法で織られた証しでもあります。

 

This shuttle places the weft threads while passing between thousands of warp threads. This loom is called the shuttle loom.

このシャトルがタテの間を走り抜けながらヨコ糸を置いていきます。これを使う織機なのでシャトル織機と言います。

シャトル織機で織られた布の両端（織物の耳）のことをセルビッチと言います。

　　

The selvedge cloth woven on this shuttle loom places less strain on the threads, resulting in a cloth that makes the most of the material's unique qualities. In addition, the selvedge portion is structurally strong because the threads do not fall out without sewing.

このシャトル織機で織られたセルビッチのある布は、糸にかかる負担が少なく、素材の持ち味が活かされた布になります。また、セルビッチ部分はミシンをかけなくても糸は抜けないので、構造的に丈夫になっています。

　　

As mentioned above, cloth with selvedges is like a sign of good quality textiles.

以上のようにセルビッチのある布は、良質な織物の証しのようになっています。

　　

[ 2 ] Type of fabric

Tenjin-factory's curtain fabrics are yarn-dyed fabrics. The following six types are available.

[ 2 ] 生地の種類

テンジンファクトリーのカーテン生地は、全て先染め織物です。次の6種類があります。　　

①Gauze fabric（ "ga" series)

Plays the same role as lace curtains. Available in solid, stripe and check. 100% linen. All fabrics are selvedge linen.

①ガーゼ生地（ga品番)

 文字通りガーゼように透け感のある生地です。レースのカーテンと同じ役割を担います。無地とストライプとチェックがあります。リネン100％。全てセルビッチリネンです。

 

The transparency is fresh and you can feel the outside well.

②Plain solid fabrics（ "beta"  series)

It will be a normal type of 100% linen plain fabric. 100% linen. All fabrics are selvedge linen.

②無地生地（beta品番）

ノーマルなタイプのリネン100％の無地の生地になります。リネン100％。全てセルビッチリネンです。

 

Much less transparent than gauze-type fabrics.

ガーゼよりは大分透け感は抑えられています。

③Plain stripe fabrics（"wari"  series)

The composition is the same as "beta ". Striped pattern. 100% linen. All fabrics are selvedge linen.

③縞生地（wari品番）

beta品番と同じ組成です。betaが無地なのに対してwariは縞模様になります。リネン100％です。全てセルビッチリネンです。

　　

Transparency is the same as "beta".

④ Plain striped-selvedge fabrics（"mimi" series)

Only selvedges are striped. All parts except for the selvage are plain. 100% linen. All fabrics are selvedge linen.

④耳生地（mimi品番）

beta ,wariと同じ組成です。betaは無地、wariは縞、そしてmimiはセルビッチが縞模様であり、その他の部分は無地になっています。全てセルビッチリネンです。

⑤Linen cotton fabrics（"pl" series)

It is the thickest fabric. Transparency is hardly noticeable. 50% linen・50% cotton. All fabrics are selvedge linen.

⑤厚手生地（pl品番）

最も厚手の生地です。透け感はほとんど気になりません。リネン50％・コットン50％です。全てセルビッチリネンです。

⑥Jacquard weaving fabrics

Jacquard weaving makes a textile in which a pattern is woven into it. The device called Jacquard is used. Our Jacquard weaving is done on rapier looms. This is because it can produce wide woven fabrics. In order to accommodate a variety of products, we weave on a width of 2m. Therefore, only this series is not selvedge. It is 50% linen and 50% cotton.

⑥ジャカード生地

ジャカード織りは文様を織り込んだ織物のことです。ジャカードという装置を使うのでそう呼ばれています。弊社のジャカード織りは、レピア織機を使用しています。なぜなら、幅の広い織物が作れるからです。様々な製品に対応するために、弊社では2ｍの幅で織っています。ですので、このシリーズだけは、セルビッチではありません。リネン50％・コットン50％です。

KIRIKOと名付けたジャカード織りの生地。図柄に合わせて光の透け感を変えるようにタテ糸とヨコ糸の交わり方を操作することで、文様を浮かび上がらせています。

A rapier loom capable of weaving wide fabrics. Yellow and green strings hang from the jacquard at the top, connected to the warp.

About the heading style

There are various styles of hanging, but Tenjin-factory's curtains use the following six types.

吊り方には様々なスタイルがありますが、テンジンファクトリーのカーテンでは、以下の6種類を採用しています。

　　　

 [ 1 ] Pinch style

 The curtain clips are attached to the curtain rail, and the curtain is clipped with them.

 [ 1 ] クリップスタイル

クリップをカーテンレールに取り付けて、それでカーテンを挟むスタイルです。

If you tuck in the clips, you can make it look like a pleated curtain.

クリップに挟む時にタックを入れるとプリーツカーテンのように出来ます。

　　

 [ 2 ] Tie -Top style

In this style, ribbons made of the same fabric as the curtain fabric are sewn onto the body of the curtain and tied to the curtain pole for hanging.

 [ 2 ] リボンスタイル

カーテン生地と同じ布で作ったリボンを本体に縫い付けて、カーテンポールに結んで吊るすスタイルです。

The length can be adjusted by changing the position of the knot.

結ぶ位置を変えることで長さを調節できます。

　　

[ 3 ] Tab-Top Style

This style allows curtain poles to be threaded through the tabs. The tabs are made of the same fabric as the curtains.

のれんタイプとも言います。ポールを通す部分が暖簾と同じような仕様になっています。

　　

[ 4 ] Rod Poket with No Upper Frill

Curtains are hung from tension rods. The top of the curtain is sewn into a tubular shape. No frills attached.

[ 4 ] 突っ張り棒フリル無しタイプ

突っ張り棒に 通せるように筒状に縫っているタイプです。

Normally, we can accommodate up to 4 cm in diameter of the rod. It can be changed upon request.

通常は、突っ張り棒の直径が4cmまでに対応しています。ご要望によって変えられます。

 

[ 5 ] Rod Poket with Upper Frill　　

This type is the curtain created a frill above the tubular part through which the rod is threaded. It looks pretty. It also hides gaps.

[ 5 ] 突っ張り棒フリル有りタイプ

棒を通す筒状部分の上に生地を余らせて、フリル状にするタイプです。窓枠と突っ張り棒のすき間を隠すことができます。

If the width of the fabric is the same size as the width of the rod, the ruffled part will blind the gap.

突っ張り棒の幅と同サイズの生地幅にすると、フリル部分がすき間の目隠しのようになります。

Curtains that are wider than the width of the rod create gathers and look prettier.

突っ張り棒の幅より大きい幅のカーテンにすると、ギャザーができ、上部の布がフリルになります。

 　　

[ 6 ] Double Pleat（Two pleats）

These are pleated curtains. Curtain hooks with an adjustable function are included. However, thicker fabrics do not drape beautifully. 4 of our fabrics, ga, beta, wari, and mimi, are compatible.

[ 6 ] プリーツカーテン（二ツ山）

二ツ山とは、プリーツにした時に山折りにした織り目が二つできる縫い方のプリーツカーテンです。アジャスト機能付きカーテンフックが付属されています。ただし、厚い生地だと綺麗なドレープが出ないので、弊社の生地では、ga、beta、wari、mimiの4品番が対応となっています。pl品番は対応しておりません。

A curtain hook can be attached to each pleat.

山折りが2枚縫い合わされた裏にカーテンフック一1ケが取付けられます。

The fabric width required for pleats is 1.6 times that of non-pleats. Folds are connected from top to bottom.

プリーツが入っている分、ノンプリーツの1.6倍の生地幅が必要になります。

[ 1 ] Cross-stitch embroidery

Antique linens are often seen with cross-stitch embroidery. This embroidery goes well with the texture of linen. Therefore, we offer an optional cross-stitch embroidery service for curtains. However, since it is done by machine, it can only be applied to curtains up to 204 cm in length.

[ 1 ] クロスステッチ刺繍

アンティークリネンには、クロスステッチ刺繡が施されているのをよく目にします。リネンのテクスチャーにはこの刺繡がよく合います。 そこで弊社ではカーテンにオプションでクロスステッチ刺繡を施すサービスを行っております。ただし、機械で入れるので、全長204cmのものまでしか入れることができません。

　　刺繍パターンは現在5種類からお選びいただけます。刺繡糸の色は、18色をご用意しています。
